The history of Hampden County was published 1 year before the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

The extensive milk business of Charles S. Davis, located at 61 Lincoln street, was established in 1879. During this long period of time he has been very successful and today stands unrivalled for reliability in the serving of milk to his patrons. The milk is of the highest grade, strictly pure, a fact made apparent when one recognizes Mr. Davis seldom loses a customer and handles 6(10 quarts daily. All milk and cream are obtained from farmers in Northampton and Amherst, Mr. Davis personally seeing that the dairies are clean and sanitary. Mr. Davis was no novice in this line when he came to Holvoke for he carried on the same business in Hartford. Mention should be made of the cream business which is very extensive and which he gives his personal attention, selling much to ice cream dealers.
