Named in the 1884 county history

The history of Hampden County was published 1 year before the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

On November 8, 1825, the Wesleyan Academy, now known as Wilbraham Academy, was opened for the reception of students, and has furnished an excellent opportvmity, for such of our children as desired a higher education than could be obtained in the public schools. Probably we do not half realize the great benefit the Academy has been to our town, in many ways. The closing of the Academy as a co-educational school in June, 1911, was a distinct loss to many of our young people. But the opening of the Academy under its new name of Wilbraham Academy, in 1912, restored to the boys the opportunities of a high school education near their own homes, and we have every reason for wishing this institution a prosperous future.
