Population over time

2 figures

Fisk fell from 342 to 312 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

May 2011FloodFisk$800,000Major flooding continued on the St. Francis River from April. At the Fisk river gage, the river crested at 27.10 feet on the evening of May 3. This was the second highest crest on record, exceeded only by a crest of 28.00 feet in April of 1927. The river came within inches of overtopping a levee on the left bank. Much of Fisk was evacuated. At least one house was inaccessible by vehicle because of floodwaters.
May 2017FloodFisk$150,000Major flooding occurred on the St. Francis River. The river crested at 26.13 feet on the Fisk river gage on the night of the 2nd. The record crest is 28.00 feet in 1927. This part of the river is heavily regulated by the Wappapello Dam. Above the dam, the river was at record levels. Very large amounts of water were released by the dam ahead of the record crest to relieve pressure on the dam. The community of Fisk was endangered by the flooding.
February 2008Tornado (EF2)Fisk$150,000The tornado touched down near the intersection of Highways FF and CC. Parts of roofs were ripped off of several houses. As it moved east, it threw tin silos more than 900 yards. One of the silos hit a house and likely played a role in destroying the house. The roof and most of the exterior walls were blown off the three bedroom brick house. The family survived in a closet near the back room of the house unhurt. At the same location, an abandoned mobile home was destroyed, and the metal frame was bent. Debris from this area was spread east about 1.5 miles. Peak estimated wind speeds were near 130 mph. The damage path continued into Stoddard County.
May 2011Thunderstorm WindFisk$75,000High winds ripped the metal roof off a storage building at the elementary school. Debris from the roof struck the elementary school, damaging air conditioning units and a corner of the school roof. Parts of the roof were wrapped around a telephone pole. Highway DD was closed because of debris. Windows were broken on two school busses. Some trees were damaged. A telephone pole snapped. At a nearby house, a porch roof was damaged and a window was broken by airborne debris.
March 2006Thunderstorm WindFisk$20,000Several outbuildings were destroyed. A garage was destroyed, damaging the vehicle within. Shingles were blown off a home. A carport was blown over.
July 2016Thunderstorm WindFisk$3,000Both lanes of State Route 51 were blocked by trees that were blown down.
January 2015Flash FloodFisk$3,000Several roads were closed in the county. Water was over roadways in many places. At the Poplar Bluff airport, the storm-total rainfall was 4.34 inches. A trained spotter seven miles northwest of Poplar Bluff measured 1.99 inches during a seven-hour period starting at midnight.
April 2014Tornado (EF1)Fisk$2,000The tornado formed near Fisk, right along the Stoddard County line. A very large hardwood tree over three feet in diameter was snapped. A couple of tree tops were down. The tornado was on the ground for just a short time in Butler County. Peak winds were estimated near 90 mph. The tornado crossed the St. Francis River into Stoddard County.
March 2020HailFisk-The hail was reported via the mPING (meteorological phenomena identification near the ground) app.
June 2019HailFisk-This hail was produced by the same supercell that passed through Poplar Bluff.
September 2012Tornado (EF0)Fisk-A tornado was on the ground between Fisk and Rombauer. The tornado was well-photographed and visible for quite some distance. The tornado occurred over open farm country and caused no significant damage. A trained spotter who photographed the tornado from his residence reported that it stayed on the ground for seven minutes.
June 2011FloodFisk-The St. Francis River fell below flood stage at Fisk for the first time since April 26. The flooding in June was relatively very minor. Some low-lying fields along the river were flooded.
April 2011FloodFisk-The St. Francis River began its upward trend toward major flooding. Rescue workers were called to transport emergency medical personnel by boat to a house near Fisk. The house was inaccessible because of floodwaters. The peak flood crest on the river occurred after the end of the month.
July 2009Funnel CloudFisk-A trained spotter observed and photographed a funnel cloud extending from a small wall cloud of a shower. The spotter watched it dissipate and reform over a 20-minute period. At times, several small vortices could be seen circling the main funnel.
