Ericson within Wheeler County

Population over time

2 figures

Ericson fell from 92 to 89 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

June 2010Flash FloodEricson$1,000,000Ericson Dam in Wheeler County, Nebraska failed Sunday evening, June 13th. Heavy rainfall contributed to water levels at the Ericson Dam that exceeded the maximum dam height, and water flowed into the emergency spillway. As debris gathered the spillway began to erode before 7 p.m. CST and the spillway breached, thereafter causing water to drain from the lake. Water levels behind the dam were estimated at 23 or 24 feet prior to dam failure. The floodwater flowed down Cedar River where the floodwater impacted approximately 15 homes and farmland in Wheeler County. At 845 p.m. CST, the floodwater reached the Wheeler and Greeley County line, with 6 inches of water was flowing over the Highway 281 bridge.
