Statement of significance

The Marcus Curtiss Inn was the home of one of the first white settlers in Genoa Townhip as well as the first brick home and the first post Marcus Curtiss Inn, one of the earliest surviving inns left in the area. Marcus Curtiss arrived in Genoa Township, Delaware Co., Ohio, in 1808 from Genoa Township. Marcus settled on a 681 acre tract of land on what became his farm. His homesteading and settling was disrupted by the War of 1812 and mail coach stopped there and, in 1825, Marcus Curtiss was granted a license to operate a tavern.
