It has a symmetrical four bay facade with a center entry which consists of a round-headed double-leaf door protected by a well detailed porch. Other important stylistic features include quoins and a bracketted cornice. Brown's Manor is one of the most imposing Second Empire structures in Ipswich and the only one executed in brick.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) Brown's Manor possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship and associations with Ipswich's late 19th Century de ve lopment. The lot on which it stands was part of a thirty acre parcel sold to George A. Brown by Abraham Lord on November 6, 1886. It is expected that the house was built shortly thereafter. Brown family were brickmakers, lumbermen and housewrights and were well known for building some of the finest structures in Essex County. This house, built for themselves, is representative of their skills. BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES T.F. Waters, Ipswich in the Mass. Bay Colony, vol. Rrown'e Manor is indiridually listed on the National Registor within the Central Village, Ipswich, Multiple Resource drea, both for ita architectural significance and its historical association with a locally-prominent family of brickmakers and housewrights. The National Register docunentation al so recognizes the building'a setting as significant, by concludine that Brown's 'anor "demonstrates Iparich'a reaponse to 19th century ideala of siting...(oicl." lour rehabilitarien project proposes to construct four new Suildinas containine seventeen torabouse units.
