Description of the property

The structure is of solid limestone large, deeply recessed, pointed arch above an arched portal and framed On the interior of the sanctuary, the most notable feature is the open of angels and monks. A great rose window above the entrance and a second one in the north wall of the chancel are filled with stained glass based on XIII century models. The stained glass windows of the transepts and nave portray Old and New Testament personages. The wooden reredos behind the altar is carved of English limewood and concrete in angular faceted forms and is compatible in scale, texture, and materials with the traditional limestone masonry of the historic CONDITION UNEXPOSED structure.

Statement of significance

The Church of the Covenant is a major work of architecture by Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson, chief architects of the late Gothic Revival. It is of the hammerbeam ceiling. The Euclid Avenue Presbyterian Church was formed in 1906 from a merger of the Euclid Street Presbyterian Church and the Beckwith Memorial Pres- the Second Presbyterian Church united with the Euclid Avenue Church to form The Church of the Covenant. Socially the formation of the church in 1906 epitomizes the movement of parishes away from the downtown, which was being swallowed up by the business district. because the Euclid Avenue Church was to be a large city church. Conse- Ferguson. As the philosopher of the late Gothic Revival, Ralph Adams the "early and simple Gothic of England and Scotland." The structure of medieval Gothic architecture. Cram's local associate architect was John W. C.
Corbusier, another national authority on church architecture and the designer of many notable churches throughout the Midwest. Major American artists and craftsmen were employed in the design ornamentation of the building.
