Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) No. 67 Salem St is thought to have been built about 1700, originally standing on the opposite (eastern) side of the street. The first known owner of this house was William Hawley, who purchased it in 1803.

Job Abbott bought the house in 1835 as a wedding gift for his daughter Lucy, who married Joseph Holt in that year. The Holts planned a new house for this site, and the old house was moved across to the western side of the street between 1852 and 1872. Daniel Cummings, a nurseryman (1828-96), subsequently became its owner; he was married (1854) to Hannah Holt and had a small family of two daughters. In the 1890s the property was bought by Augustus Davis, a painter and paper-hanger, whose family 1ived here for another half-century. When Mcs. Davis died in 1935 at age 99, she was eulogized as one of Andover's oldest and most esteemed residents, with a great interest in church and town affairs. This very spare cottage is an unusual building type in Andover today, with the pleasing lines and proportions typical of its period.

A small, 1½ story form; long, asymmetrical facade with tiny windows; and large, approximately centered chimney are the dominant, unornamented features of this house. The functional beauty of the building has been excellently restored and preserved by the present owners. The Holt-Curmings-Davis House is significant as an unusual building type of early vintage. The property retains integrity of design, materials, workmanship, and setting; it meets Critera C of the National Register. 10.
