Historical significance (include explanaton of themes checked above) The John Young House is a handsome late Greek Revival structure, built ca. 1845 by housewright John Young. Young is not listed in the 1853 directory, but in 1855 he is listed as a carpenter, north of Steep Brook. Lewis H.
Adams and William Chace are listed as living here early on; Chace's widow Phebe and Samue1 Chace lived.: here until the 1890's. From 1884 and 1899, Mark and Julia Anthony shared the house. By 1934, the Belmont Club had assumed ownership, operating the building as a social club. This well-preserved house is highly significant as the only surviving example of the handsome residences which once stood close to the business district. Unlike the temple front homes which are more characteristic survivors from this period, the John Young features a hip roof, a central trabeated doorway with sidelights, and attic frieze windows. As an important example of its style and as a symbol of the post-fire development of Fall River, the Young House meets Criteria A and C of the National Register. 10.
