Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) This Queen Anne row is the only one of its kind in Fall River and represents a lively and imaginative variation on the city's most common building type, the multi-family tenement.
The stylistic term Queen Anne is used chiefly because of the peaked center dormers and general idiosyncratic quality; however, the porch design is clearly in- pilasters and single wide shingled posts--are used in the five units in an ABCBA rhythm. The porches and all other original detailing has survived virtually intact. The rowhouses were among the first residences to be constructed along the perimeter of Kennedy Park and are greatly enhanced by their setting The original owner, Arnold B. Chace, is not listed in the city directories but was the son of Elizabeth Buffum Chace, a leading Rhode Island mill, abolitionist and reformer and Samuel Chace, owner of the Valley Falls Mill. Because of their intact auality, workmanshid, and unusual style and building type, the Chace Rowhouses meet criteria C of the National Register individually. 10.
