Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Chase-Hyde Farm is an unusual and picturesque late 19th century agricultural complex including a house, barnand former windmill, the whole surrounded by a fieldstone and granite retaining wall. -tai nbrann s of the 1870's, was built by Abraham & Abby Chase about 1879. By 1893 the property was owned by Samuel Hyde, who operated a stock farm here. Hyde added the two outbuildings in the 1890's and may also be responsible for the c.1900 porch and porte-cochère. The complex is significant not only because of its rural, pictorial quality and unusual, intact architectural elements, but also as one of the few remaining "farms" in Fall River. Because its granite ledges provided poor soil for farming, Fall River's growth was based on industrialization; and such reminders of 19th century agricultural development are rare.
For this reason, the Chase-Hyde Farm meets both Criteria A and C of the National Register as an individual property. 10.
