Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Greany Building, a large four-story brick and granite commercial block, straddles the northeast corner of Flint and Pleasant Streets and can be considered the "heart" of the Flint.

Erected between 1890-92 by Thomas Greany, in the 1890's the building housed Greany Dry Goods and/or Greany, The Mason, depending on the year and whim of Mr. Greany- In 1896, the Rinfret Bros., clothiers, operated a substantial business at #1288, in the portion of the building furthest east from the intersection. The upper fIoors provided living space for 15 families. The building appears to echo the scale and ornamentation of the Academy, the premier downtown commercial building-- although the Greany Building is obviously only a vernacular rendition of the High Victorian Style. In its style, materials and workmanship, the Greany Building is clearly superior to other commercial buildings in local shopping areas such as the Flint.

It utilizes a lively combination of brick, granite and terra cotta in a simple but sophisticated design which responds to the corner site and sloping topography of the street. As one of the finest late 19th century commercial blocks in Fall River, the building meets Criteria C of the National Register individually. 10.
