Locat in the Purchase Street neighborhood, close to downtown - a residential area fashir -able in the 1840s to 1860s before large-scale development began in the "Highlands The James D. Hathaway House is one of several (7) outstanding Greek Revival temple fronted houses built by major early mill-owners and prosperous merchants after the 1843 fire in downtown Fall River. The Hathaway House is a significant intact local example of the Greek Revival and meets Criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places, 10.
