Both the main block and side ell have central peaked gables with, respectively, double and single round headed windows. Other features of note are bracketed eaves and doorhood and the original entrance door. The interior floor plan is intact and only minor cosmetic al- terations have occurred.
The house stands out architecturally against others of the same class and period in Rehoboth and thus meets criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places individually. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the commmity) The house-at 197 Hornbine Road was built ca. 1890 by a member of the Baker family, a prominent and early family in southern Rehoboth. Its construction attests to the enduring presence of first settlement families in the town and to their. tenacity, as relatively little new construction was occurring at the time.
