Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) Handsome, modest-sized Greek Revival house with all detail intact. Built C. 1845 by Nathan Read, owner of Nathan Read & Co., a Hat, Cap and Fur store, located in the Granite Block downtown.

Although not " temple-fronted' this house is part of a cluster of outstanding Greek Revival houses built down-town, on North Main St. after the 1843 fire. Much of Greek Revival Fall River has disappeared and these few houses are fitting representative examples of that Early Industrial period when major mill-owners and prosperous merchants built new houses in the Greek Revival style. It is an outstanding example of the Greek Revival in Fall River and by its architectural significance, integrity of design and workmanship and its historical associations meets Criteria A & C of the National Register. 10.
