Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) This house is among the best standing examples in Taunton of a large-scale, builder-produced residence in the Queen Anne style. Most of its features are intact. Buildings in this mode were constructed throughout the city's residential neighborhoods in the 1875 through 1900 period. The land on which the house is sited was purchased by w.C. Beattie from George Warren in 1881.
Description: Nearly identical in design to 32 Cedar St., (see form #148), the house has a basically rectangular plan, with central and side elevation bay projections, and ends in a hipped ..1 roof. It most outstanding features are its central bay pavilion, incorporating a steeply-pitched gable with vergeboard, and a front porch with central pediment, inset with sunburst motif. 2/2 and 1/1 windows are both singly placed and grouped in bays. The W. C. Beattie House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association. It meets criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places as an excellently preserved sample of the type of house built for Taunton's upper middle class population in fashionable residential neighborhoods during the late 19th century. 10.
