Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) A rare and relatively unaltered example of Federal Period construction, the Dean house is another Taunton residence in the Central area associated with the Dean Family, early settlers and Iron Works founders. The structure was built for Abiezar Dean on land purchased from minister Simeon Doggett in 1833, probably between the years 1835 and 1840.
Description: The contained 2-story Federal style house has a hipped roof and interior end chimneys. Its central entrance is trimmed by a semi-elliptical fanlight and narrow sidelights. The Abiezar Dean Residence' possesses integirty of design, location, setting, materials, workmanship ana association. It meets criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places for the high quality and excellent preservation of its Federal period architecture. Boundaries contorm to current lotlines. 10.
