Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) This well-preserved Federal Period house is both a good example of a house type common to rural New England in the late 18th and early 19th century, and is linked to an important Taunton family, the Lincolns. The house forms part of a small residential cluster in North Taunton, organized around the North Taunton Baptist Church, in what is otherwise a rural area.
Ambrose Lincoln, Jr., a farmer, built the residence in c. 1775, shortly after his marriage. The structure remained in the Lincoln family until 1919, when 'it was sold to William Austin. Description: The Federal I-house is 2 stories and has a hipped roof. Its 5-bay facade is entered through a central door (partially altered) with louvered Ianlight set in a keystoned, molded surround. 6/6 sash windows have plain wood trim. The structure features interior end chimneys. 3g4t 1aha dnbrose incon Houad poageses d te tocof anportnnet o, architectural examole of its type and period which reflects late 18th century settlement of the outlying North Taunton area.- Boundaries conform to current lot lines. 10.
