Originally H.B.
Lothrop's grocery store in the 1860's through 1880's, this structure was one of a number of small businesses that lined Weir St., beginning in the post-Civil War Period. Description: The 22-story, gable-fronted frame building is entered by a central door, set into a splayed reveal. Large, rectangular, 2/2 store windows dominate the facade. A tirst story overhang supported on deep, stickwork brackets, carries the building's sign. The cornice area features paired brackets and eaves returns. The H.B: Lothrop Store. possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association. It meets criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places as an outstanding and extremely well preserved example of a mid 19th century wood frame commercial building, a type with 1ow survival rate in southeast Massachusetts, of Weir Streets commercial past.
