The 2½ story 5 bay house features a central hall plan and a gable roof. Greek Revival details include an entrance enframement consisting of simplified pilasters supporting an entablature and sidelights; a flat cornice board and gable returns. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) Thematically, this house is closely associated with the development of Weir Village, but is, today, visually removed from its center. Its construction was begun by Abiathar King Williams, and was completed by his brother, George B. Williams, in 1843.
The Williams Family-early brick- makers, shipping tycoons, and lumber magnates, owned, populated and had economic influence over much of the Weir throughout the 19th century. The house is still owned by the Williams family. The house, though typical of vernacular Greek Revival construction of the mid-19th century, is one of the few of its type left in Taunton. Possessing integrity of location, design, setting, materials, work- manship and association, the Abiathar King Williams House meets criteria A, B and C of the National Register of Historic Places as a rare example of a substantial farmhouse constructed in the mid 19th century in Taunton whicn relains its yernacular Greek Revival style details, Secondaril!
