Of particular significance to this sculptural facade is the treatment of the window enframements of the tripartite projecting bays. A variety of carved and sawn ornament embellishes the segmental-arched windows andsurrounds. A bracketed porch is carried by panelled posts.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) 533/537 Prospect Street possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, and workmanship. It is significant as a well preserved businessman's and state representative's residence, and characteristic of the Prospect/Brook Street residential area. Additionally, it is the finest example of the Second Empire design remaining in the town. Thus, the building meets criteria B and C of the National Register of Historic Places.
