The Urias Hardy House is a well preserved example of the substantial residences built for managers and professionals in Methuen at the turn of the century. The gambrel- roofed, Shingle Style building has a projecting two-story protico with a gabled pediment supported by two Corinthian columns; an elliptical window is set into the gable. The shingle-clad building rests on a granite foundation.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) The Urias Hardy House is significant as an example of the single-family dwellings constructed in Methuen's newly-developing areas at the turn of the century for individuals such as Hardy, an overseer at the nearby Arlington Mills. In contrast to the workers' houses of the Arlington District directly to the south, the Hardy House is stylish, spacious, and was built at considerable expense. The Hardy House was built during a period when Methuen became established as a "bedroom" town for nearby Lawrence, and is associated with the last period of single-family house building prior to World War II.

The Hardy House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship and meets criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places.
