Setting_ tree-lined residential street adjacent to downtown UTM Reference: Lawrence Quad I: 25,000 19 321130/4732620 (Staple additional sheets here) ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) 15-17-19 Park Street is among the best conserved examples of a ca.1840 residence near the center of Methuen. The five-bay, central entry facade retains the simple window enframements and cornice of the original; a bracketed door hood, tripartite north bay and 2/2 sash appear to be later Italianate additions to the clapboard-clad building. A series of ells and a large rear addition appear to have been added at mid centruy. The pitched roof of the main building has paired interior chimneys.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the commumity.) 15-17-19 Park Street possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship. It is significant as a representative of the simple dwellings - often added to - constructed near Methuen's small industrial/commercial core in the period between 1820 and 1860, when Methuen's town center began to assume its present appearance. Such dwellings were usually owned by mill employees or merchants. As representative of both a popular architectural style and housing type in Methuen from the first half of the 19th century, 15-17-19 Park Street meets criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places.
