Constructed between 1870 and 1880, it is of rectangular plan with a sidehall entry. A projecting bay, bracketed eaves, and round-arch window in the gable end enhance the front facade. Windows have projecting lintels and contain 2/2 sash. The home rests on a granite foundation and is sheathed in clapboards.
A simple pitched-roof barn is at the rear and appears to be of approximately the same date. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) 50 Pelham Street possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, and workmanship. It meets criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places. It is significant as a well preserved house associated with the workers at the Methuen Cotton Mills and other Spicket River factories. Other examples remain, but few are in as fine condition.
