The ca.1720 Asie Swan House is a good example of the 1½-story, 18th century house built in the Methuen area. The five-bay facade has a sidelit central entry; 6/6 double-hung sash are set in windows with simple enframements. The clapboard-clad building rests on a granite foundation and is surrounded by dense vegetation. Dormers break the broad expanse of the roof; they appear to be a later addition.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the commnity.) Prior to the construction of a meeting house on "Meeting House Hill" in 1727, the Asie Swan House was used for Methuen's first town meetings, commencing in 1726. The house was moved to its present location from its original site near Prospect Hill, now a part of Lawrence. It is significant for its association with Methuen's early period of settlement, when there was no nucleated town center. The Asie Swan House possesses integrity of design, materials, and workmanship, and is significant for its association with Methuen's early town meeting history, as well as for its vernacular architectural design. Thus, it meets criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places.
