Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Ebenezer Heath for h's sor,nwhneze The Ebenezer Heath House, located at 30 Heath Street, was built circa 1791 by John Heath for his son, Ebenezer, and daughter-in-law, Hannah Williams Heath. The property on which the house was built belonged to Joseph White at the end of the 17th century. Joseph and his brother Benjamin and their descendants owned much land in Brookline during the 17th and 18th centuries. Samuel Sewall, Joseph White's great-grandson, owned this land at the time of the American Revolution. However, Samuel, whose father Henry was the grandson of Chief Justice Sewall of the Witch Trial famer andawhose mother, Ann, was the granddaughter of Joseph White, was a Loyalist. As a result, he was forced to flee to England in the 1770's, and his land was confiscated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
In1782, the property was purchasedby John Heath, Sameul Sewall's cousin, who lived in Brookline as early as 1762 at which time he was a fence viewer. (#685) John Heath and his wife, Suzannah Crafts, whose maternal grandfather was Samue1 White, had three children; their son, Ebenezer, was the first Heath to live in this house which has continued to remain in the hands of the Heath family to the present day. nearby on Heath Hill. Heath. Charles Heath also built a höuse on Chestnut Hill Avenue which was occupied by Caroline and Edward Atkinson, Heath's daughte: and son-in-law.
This house is a two story, square, hipped roof structure with two large 10. Bibliography and/or references (such as local histories, exception of the front portico, assessor's records, With the possible the original of which might have been replaced in 1845 after Ebenezer's death, little appears to have been changed. It is possible that part of thi present kitchen was moved in 1838 from the old White House, inherited in 1725 by Samuel White and demolished in 1838 by Ebenezer Heath. In ad- dition to its age and historical associations, this house is an archi- tecturally distinguished structure, documenting the transition from mid to late 18th century architectural styles.
