The Chase House is a well-preserved local example of a sidehall Greek Revival cottage with side wing; the main block is 1 3/4 stories while the wing is 11/2. The building is shingle clad and detailed with cornerboards carrying a wide fascia with dentils. The main entry is enframed by sidelights and pilasters carrying an entablature; the wing entry is similarly detailed, lacking only the sidelights. Windows are simply framed and contain 6/6 sash. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the conmunity. The Chase family were among the original settlers of Hyannis Port. Deed research has made clear that they once owned a large farm in this northern part of Hyannis Port, and sold off numerous woodlots over the years. Little is known about Lemuel B.
Chase except that he owned this house in the 1850s and may have been the original owner. The Chase family owned this house with additional acreage until 1911.
