Date 1986 NATIONAL REGISTER CRITERIA STATEMENT (if applicable) The Hallett House possesses integrity of location, design, materials, setting, workman- ship, feeling and association. It is significant as the home of a prominent local citizen and as a well preserved example of the Federal period style.
It is one of the few remaining period buildings to remain intact on Main Street, Hyannis. The Hallett House thus meets criteria B and C of the National Register of Historic Places. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. Located at the corner of Main and Camp Streets, the Seth Hallett House is a 1 and 1/2 story, full five bay Cape cottage enclosed by a gable roof with a central chimney. As is typical of Federal period houses, its center entry is headed by a narrow transom, and its windows contain 6/6 sash. An early ell extends to the rear, while a more recent ell extends to the west. The house is shingle clad. The main alteration to this house was removal of its central chimney at an unknown date.
- HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. Seth Hallett served as town selectman for several years in the mid-19th century when he lived in this house. The house was owned by the partnership of Crowell and Hallett in 1880 and by Mrs: A.
