A substantial house built of brick,* the home is two stories deep lot on Norwich Street, an area predominated by frame turn-of-the- one-story, gable-roofed kitchen addition which was added by the original owner and which also features a decorative sawn wood porch. The vernacular form of the building is given a modest Italianate character with large brackets and sawn cornice trim. The original front porch was removed during the 1930s and recently replaced by the building's owner, but the two rear porches are both original to the building and have posts and cornice which is a typical feature of the Italianate style, while the gabled roofline of the house lends the building a more vernacular character. The pair of front entrances, leading to the parlor and the living room, round-headed windows.

Windows throughout the building are one-over-one double-hung wood sash and have simple sandstone lintels and sills. The interior plan of the Merryman House is intact, consisting of the front parlor, living room, dining room, and kitchen on the first floor, and three enframements are intact throughout the interior.
