Among the best preserved examples of the Craftsman Bungalow style in Quincy, the house fulfiils Criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places on the local level. NELSON HOUSE The house at 4 Brunswick Street was built as a summer residence for John R. Nelson in 1908. 1935. The Neison family remained in residence until Nelson was among the developers, who in the early 1900s, subdivided Squantum farms previoulsy owned by Edmund Pope, Captain James Hutchins, and the Titus family. Together with C.E.
Carlson, Nelson was the primary developer of the Hutchins farm. Encouraged by of the electric street railway in 1897. developers platted house lots. The majority of the building construction occurred between 1907 and 1923. Built first as summer houses, most of Squantum's residences were converted for year-round use by 1920. The Craftsman bungalow design is characterized by the front porch formed by the lower slope of the ridge roof, the low front shed dormer, the wide bracketed overhang of the roof over the side gables and the full-width The porch is supported by posts made of scored cast stone made The fenestration is irregular; there are single windows, double windows and a small band of small windows on the left elevation.
