HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE -- 75 FAXON LANE PRATT-FAXON HOUSE This building is historically significant as one of the few intact reminders of Quincy's 18th century character as a community of dispersed farmsteads.
The house was part of the large farm that Job Faxon purchased from Thomas Pratt in 1812. The cape was the homestead for the farm, built about 1806. Job Faxon's farm was subdivided in the late 19th century. An extant outbuilding at 69 Faxon Lane seems to have been converted to a residence when water was piped in and the shed dormer added in 1925. The area around the homestead was developed with small Colonial Revival Capes in the 1920s and 1930s. Number 75 Faxon 1 Capes in Lane was still in the Faxon family as late as 1966. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE - - 75 FAXON LANE PRATT-FAXON HOUSE This fine cape is architecturally important as one of two intact Federal period capes in Quincy (the other is the Noah Curtis House [ca. 1798; # 3451). The house at 75 Faxon has survived almost unaltered since its construction in 1806. It is a one story residence with a large enveloping ridge roof pierced by a large chimney. The main facade. sheathed in clapboards is composed of a central entrance and two multi-paned rectangular windows on each side. The house's low granite foundation, placement of the windows tight under the eaves, and simple pilasters framing the door are all evidences of the early 19th century date. A small enclosed porch between the house and the attached, twentieth century garage was probably added in the nineteen teens.
