A well-preserved example of a small-scale version of the Craftsman Bungalow found in Quincy neighborhoods of the period, the house fulfills Criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places at the local level. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE - - 15 GILMORE STREET ALBERT NELSON HOUSE Number 15 Gilmore Street was erected in 1908 by owner/builder Albert Nelson who developed the Company. The Gammons lived in the house until after 1923.
The house at 15 Gilmore Street is situated in a Wollaston neighborhood that was formerly part of "the farms" of North Quincy. Encouraged by the arrival of the Old Colony Railroad in 1845 and the street railway network (after 1888), developers subdivided and platted this area in As in the adjacent neighborhoods of Montclair, Norfolk Downs, and Atlantic, much of the building construction modest suburban houses in Wollaston occurred in the first two decades of the twentieth century. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE - - 15 GILMORE STREET The house at 15 Gilmore Street is a well-preserved example of the small-scale version of the Craftsman Bungalow that was erected in the modest residential neighborhoods north of Quincy Center in the early years of the twentieth century. The fine bungalow has a gable filled with stucco and strap-work reminiscent of the revealed construction motifs of the Craftsman style. The porch is created by the extension of the gable in true bungaloid fashion and has thick square posts atop The house is set on a typical Quincy granite foundation and is sheathed in wood shingles. The facade is symmetrical, composed of a door with a long oval pane, typical of the early 1900s, and two large windows with transoms filled with leaded tracery. With its varied walling materials, the house presents a picturesque element to the street.
