The house retains integrity of design, location, materials, feeling, and association, and fulfills Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places on the local level. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE - - 47-49 SPEAR STREET SETH SPEAR HOMESTEAD The house at 47-49 Spear Street is known as the Seth Spear Homestead; it was owned by Seth Spear (1801-1888) from the early 1850s until his death in 1888. The house was built around 1850, either just prior to ce by Seet that date by Thomas Drake, or just after that date by Seth Spear. Spear had one of the largest farms near Quincy Center. His property extended from Wibrid Street to Coddington Street including a portion of the area now occupied by Spear Street.

The farm and homestead were bought from the estate in 1888 by Spear's daughter Henrietta B. Pratt. In 1917. the property was acquired by Alice G. White and later conveyed to Emily White who still lived there in 1923. consisting of six-over-six sash windows. Indications of its mid century date are the projecting gable returns, the sidelights at the entrance, and the simple corner pilasters framing the main block of the house.
