5 since 2019Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names West Day in 5 storm reports between 2019 and 2024: 2 flash flood, 1 flood, 1 thunderstorm wind, 1 tornado. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| October 2019 | Flood | West Day | $50,000 | The bridge at Military Road and Sand Lake Road was closed due to damage from flooding. |
| July 2023 | Flash Flood | West Day | $30,000 | North Shore Road was washed out near Lakeland Road near Edinburg. |
| July 2023 | Flash Flood | West Day | $1,000 | A mudslide was reported blocking the intersection of Shields Road and North Shore Road near Edinburg due to heavy rainfall. |
| July 2024 | Tornado (EF1) | West Day | - | A National Weather Service storm survey, with assistance from the New York State Police's Unmanned Aerial Systems program, was able to determine an EF1 tornado occurred along South Shore Road in the Town of Day. While much of the damage resulted from rear flank downdraft winds, drone footage indicated a narrow swath of tree damage consistent with low-level rotation. After coming ashore from Great Sacandaga Lake, the tornado proceeded over Bailey Hill producing additional tree damage to the east. The tornado then continued eastward producing a more concentrated area of damage along the northern shore of Hunt Lake before dissipating. The majority of the tree damage on the eastern shore of Great Sacandaga Lake was a result of strong rear flank downdraft winds. Estimated peak winds were 110 mph with a path length of 8.36 miles and a path width of 50 yards. During clean up efforts, a woman was seriously injured (indirect) after being struck by a tree. |
| June 2021 | Thunderstorm Wind | West Day | - | A tree, wires, and a transformer were downed on Military Road. |
