West Nyack, the town this property stands in, in 14 storm reports between 1996 and 2024: 6 thunderstorm wind, 5 flash flood, 2 hail, 1 lightning.
No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
Numerous roads were flooded in Nanuet. The intersection of North Middletown Rd. and Atlantic Ave. in Nanuet was closed at 5:40 EDT due to flooding. Germonds Road in Clarkstown (Rockland Lake) was also closed due to flooding.
Torrential rain occurred in and around West Nyack. Radar estimated rainfall rates between 2 and 4 inches within 1 hour. This caused a roof drain to overflow at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack. Rain water infiltrated the structure resulting in the flooding of many stores, a partial wall collapse at a JC Penny's Department store and the evacuation of the mall.
