Newburgh, the town this property stands in, in 43 storm reports between 1995 and 2024: 27 thunderstorm wind, 8 hail, 5 flash flood, 2 lightning.
The reports record 1 death and 1 injury. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
Quarter to golf ball size hail was reported throughout the town of Newburgh. Numerous car dealerships reported damage to vehicles and one dealership reported the hail damaged the roof over its service facility.
Dozens of trees, including a few large ones, multiple large tree limbs, and in addition several utility poles and lines were reported down throughout Newburgh.
Flash flooding closed many roads in the Newburgh area as torrential rain from thunderstorms occurred. Several streets were closed, some of which were covered by 4 feet of water.
A spotter reported several trees and power lines downed by this storm in New Windsor. A local newspaper showed pictures of several trees up to 5 feet in diameter that were toppled by this storm. Severe winds stripped the roof off a service building at a car dealership on Route 17K in the town of Newburgh.
