Mechanicville, the town this property stands in, in 26 storm reports between 1994 and 2023: 9 thunderstorm wind, 5 hail, 5 flash flood, 4 lightning.
The reports record 2 injuries. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
Lightning struck a house in Mechanicville around 2105 LST, causing significant damage to the second floor and attic. The back of the house was gutted, and new furniture inside the house was ruined.
A National Weather Service storm survey team confirmed a microburst in Mechanicville, NY. The damage occurred in a concentrated area within the City of Mechanicville. The team observed dozens of hardwood trees uprooted or snapped. A few of the trees fell on homes and cars. Some power poles were snapped, resulting in power outages. In addition, a Little League dugout was destroyed by the wind.
Flash flooded was reported on Main Street in Mechanicville due to showers and thunderstorms. As a result of the flooding, Main Street was temporarily closed.
The Hudson River at Mechanicville exceeded its flood stage of 53.0 feet at 6 AM EST on November 18th, crested at 53.1 feet at 9 AM EST on the 18th, before falling back below flood stage at 12:25 PM EST on the 18th.
Lightning strike sent high tension line to the ground. A resulting small fire in the natural gas line under the power line caused a power outage that lasted approximately 8 hours.
