Monticello, the town this property stands in, in 41 storm reports between 1996 and 2022: 11 heavy rain, 7 hail, 6 flash flood, 6 wildfire.
No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
Heavy rainfall of nearly three quarters of an inch was reported in the southwest part of Monticello which led to localized street flooding. Heavier amounts of precipitation fell in other portions of the city which also led to flooding of basements.
Persistent moderate to heavy rainfall resulted in widespread flooding and flash flooding across much of east central and southeast Utah, including San Juan County and Canyonlands National Park. In Canyonlands National Park many roads and trails were closed due to heavy rains and flooding. Around Needles Outpost, Highway 211 among other roads and trails were inundated with mud and water that made them impassable.
Rainfall of 2.22 inches fell within a 6 hour period at Cedar Point. About 1.50 inches of that rainfall occurred within 45 minutes beginning around 12:30 MST in the afternoon. Minor flooding was reported in the area.
Runoff from heavy rain in the Monticello area created flash flooding, with flowing water at least 6 inches deep across country roadways just south of Monticello.
