See how aaeh people wiU lean for forward - ward forward and walk carefully, and press the hand to the lower abdomen ; such people will also complain of heartburn, sour belching*, and distress after eating - Also, the spleen will he dragged downwards, pulling oh its upper ligaments, producing a dead, dull, heavy, constant pain in the aide, which nothing taken inter interually - ually interually ran*#; ond observe how all these feelings exist together. The luugs will be dragged upon, producing a disposition to lean forward ia silting er standing. Also, a shortness of breath, and dry cough, and dull pain in the breast, and tense of tightness will be felt. The above and other anologout affections have hitherto baffled nil constitutional treatment; but, nine* they have been viewed us mechanical, at d have been treated by Lace (see plate), they have all been treated with astonishing success ; and we can how sea a host of cases seemingly well or half well, or combined with real diseave, requiring medicine, who cannot enjoy life, or be cured upon common principles of treatment; and why? because their house is falling down, and by biuding them up ther pains vanish, and efficacy to in internal - ternal internal remedies is thereby given. THOSE WHO SHOULD USE THE LACE. I shall say just enough on some com complaints, - plaints, complaints, to show that the Lace proposes to relieve many apparently opposite affections, in a rational and natu natural - ral natural manner. The substance of the whole may be summed up in this ; that inan, anirually considered, is a machine, aud that when hiv mechanical perfection is in any degree lost, there must follow a natural and corresponding modification or depreciation of its functions, ana natu naturul - rul naturul result. This is true uf die soft as well as of the hard parts. With reference to the organs, or soft parts of uie trunk, we remark, that they are all connec connected - ted connected together, from the top to the base of the liunral cavity, and are under the influence ofiheir own weight; that, they in health, till support each other, from below' upwards, not dragging each other downwards. This compact and upward uction, is whietiy effected by the surrounding abdominal muscles, when in an active, healthy stale- Of course when diese are relaxed, die whole pile of organs wi.l fall, producing a general con confusion - fusion confusion aud displacement of organs, necessarily produ producing - cing producing a host ol luiu.tn.nal derangements, tn a meohnni meohnniual - ual meohnniual way. The following expresses some of die unturel effects of muscular and ligamentous relaxa relaxation - tion relaxation upon the body which ranuet be cu ed by medi medicine - cine medicine exclusively, viz: The whole mass ol organs falls, and presses on the urinary organ, producing a too frequent evacuation of urine; or else, turning it back, nr forward,so as to cramp the stem and retain the urine, produces reten retention, - tion, retention, giving too many a false reason to suppose the kid kidneys - neys kidneys to be affected ; they also pi ess on the tower bowel shut it up, und thereby mechanically produce costive costivein-sa - in-sa costivein-sa and torpor of the bowels. The nerves going to the lower limb*, giving the function of sensation and motion, are compressed by the same means (i. e. a permanent de descent - scent descent of the abdominal oiguns) producing uuinbncrs, or else too much sensitiveness, as prickling aud wrung wrungIii - Iii wrungIii g pain, extending down the hips aud thighs; also, loss of, or impeded motion, especially on moving a spell in the morning, increasing to crump, or almost entire loss of motion towards night, all Cone mechani mechanically, - cally, mechanically, which is better in the morning Also die feet will swell near night, because the pressure obstructs the ascent of the transparent fluids into the body, but will be better in the moruii g.
