Population over time
3 figuresForkland fell from 629 to 445 between 2000 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

18 since 1997Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Forkland in 18 storm reports between 1997 and 2024: 7 hail, 6 thunderstorm wind, 5 tornado. The reports record 2 injuries. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April 2010 | Tornado (EF1) | Forkland | 2 hurt, $50,000 | The tornado that had touched down in Marengo County, near the city of Demopolis, moved into Greene County. On its northeast path, it produced sporadic tree damage, and stayed mostly in forested areas. Just before crossing the Black Warrior River for the second time, it struck the Greene County Steam Plant, where 2 men were injured when they were blown down by the wind. A few small buildings were damaged in the same area, and a tractor trailer rig was blown over and moved at least 40 feet. The tornado then moved into Hale County. |
| April 2011 | Tornado (EF1) | Forkland | $371,000 | The first segment in this tornado initially touched down in Greene County along County Road 20, 2.2 miles east of Forkland. The tornado then moved northeast into Hale County, where it lifted north of State Highway 25, 2.4 miles west of the Bibb County line. In Greene County, the tornado was rated an EF-1, with maximum winds of 105 mph. The tornado snapped hundreds of trees along its path. |
| April 2003 | Tornado (F0) | Forkland | $100,000 | no account filed |
| April 2008 | Thunderstorm Wind | Forkland | $10,000 | Several trees were blown down, including one that fell on a house. |
| April 1997 | Thunderstorm Wind | Forkland | $5,000 | Trees were blown down along Hwy 43, south of Forkland, in the southern part of the county. |
| May 2009 | Thunderstorm Wind | Forkland | $2,000 | A few trees were blown down along the river, between Forkland and Demopolis. |
| February 2009 | Thunderstorm Wind | Forkland | $1,000 | Several trees were blown down along CR-18. |
| April 2005 | Hail | Forkland | $1,000 | Penny size hail fell along CR 20 between Boligee and Forkland. The hail continued to fall south andeast of Forkland all the way to the Black Warrior River. |
| April 2005 | Hail | Forkland | $1,000 | Quarter size hail was reported near Forkland. |
| December 2024 | Tornado (EF1) | Forkland | - | The tornado began approximately four miles northeast of Forkland in extreme eastern Greene County along County Road 25, just north of Modley Lane. At this location, numerous large hardwoods were uprooted surrounding a site-built home, causing damage to the residence and at least one vehicle. Additionally, metal panels were removed from the roof and sides of a farm outbuilding. A few hundred yards to the north, a well-defined area of significant tree damage occurred, where many dozen to perhaps hundreds of pine trees were snapped. These non-contiguous pockets of well-defined damage suggest the tornado was characterized by multiple vortices. The tornado widened substantially and maintained its multiple vortex nature as it continued to the northeast and moved into Hale County. |
| June 2023 | Hail | Forkland | - | Photos of half-dollar size hail in Forkland. |
| March 2020 | Hail | Forkland | - | Dime to quarter size hail at the Greene County Electric Plant. |

| May 2015 | Thunderstorm Wind | Forkland | - | Several trees uprooted and power lines downed along County Road 11. |
| November 2014 | Tornado (EF0) | Forkland | - | The tornado began about 2.4 miles east-southeast of Forkland, just south of County Road 20 near the northern edge of catfish ponds, where a person observed the tornado. From there, it moved north-northeast and ended near Lloyd Chapel Church along County Road 41. Several softwood trees were either snapped or uprooted along the path where wind speeds reached 70 mph. Additionally, a small tornado debris signature was evident in dual-pol data from KBMX radar. |
| April 2003 | Hail | Forkland | - | The supercell continued into Greene County. It produced dime to quarter size hail across mostly rural areas around Forkland. The supercell dissipated as it entered eastern Greene County. |
