Population over time
2 figuresReed fell from 141 to 130 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

Storms near this place
3 since 1996Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Reed in 3 storm reports between 1996 and 2001: 1 thunderstorm wind, 1 tornado, 1 hail. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| February 2001 | Tornado (F3) | Reed | - | A strong tornado was spawned in western Desha County about 1 mile south-southwest of Reed. The tornado moved quickly northeast, and destroyed a mobile home. Roofs were damaged at several homes. In addition, the tornado rolled a 500 gallon butane tank, damaged or destroyed metal barns and sheds and knocked hundreds of trees down near the Arkansas River levee southeast of Yancopin. Perhaps the most damage was found just west of Kelso. There, a large metal farm shop was destroyed with parts of the shop found more than 6 miles away. Near the shop, there were grain carts thrown at least a third of a mile. A large combine and several truck tractors were destroyed. One tractor trailer was overturned. Also near the shop, a pickup track was mangled with several large farm implements thrown, overturned or destroyed. The tornado travelled about 42 miles before dissipating 5 miles northeast of Snow Lake. |
