Regional context, not property-specific
evidence. The National Weather Service names
Gassville, the town this property stands in, in 30 storm reports between 1996 and 2026: 13 thunderstorm wind, 9 hail, 2 tornado, 2 lightning.
The reports record 2 injuries. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
Lightning struck a power line, knocking out electricity to about 2200 customers. Gassville and Cotter were affected, as were parts of Mountain Home, Yellville, and Harrison.
The intersection of Wildcat Shoals Rd. and Denton Ferry Rd. was impassable due to high water. Also, once car was submerged, but the occupant was unharmed.
A weak tornado moved from Marion County into Baxter County about 3.1 miles southeast of Gassville. The tornado traveled 15 miles before lifting 7.5 miles northeast of Mountain Home. The tornado passed through the southern portions of Mountain Home. An unoccupied mobile home was destroyed, and debris from the mobile home knocked an adjacent mobile home off its foundation. A number of homes were also damaged, mostly due to falling trees. Shingles were taken off a number of roofs. An apartment building under construction was damaged and a garage at one home collapsed. One vehicle was destroyed by a falling tree and several others were damaged by falling limbs or flying debris. Some power poles were knocked down and dozens of trees along the tornado track were blown down.
A weak tornado affected the Rim Shoals Recreational Area along the White River...which is located about 2 miles southeast of Gassville in Baxter County. The tornado demolished a pavilion at a campground and damaged a couple of rental cabins. Several dozen trees were blown down, with one tree falling on a spot where a tent had been located. The tent was being used by three campers, with the campers evacuated to a permanent building by one of the owners of the campground. The owner evacuated the campers not long after a tornado warning had been issued for the area. The tent has never been found.
