Associated with merchant Adam Smith and with the development of Clifton. Description: This single-story wood frame house sits on a small lot with mature landscaping surrounding it. A low chain link fence surrounds the property. The house was probably originally a National Folk style home of the Gable-Front substyle. Early additions to the south and east sides have altered this appearance. The roof to this house has a cross-gable form. Most of the windows are wood, double- hung, with a one-over-one pattern. A front veranda porch appears at the main entry to the house while a small entry porch appears at the rear. Exterior materials include wood siding and asphalt shingles. Modern siding has been added to the foundation. History: This dwelling was constructed ca.

by merchant Adam Smith on land leased from the Arizona Copper Company. Adam Smith arrived in Clifton on March He formed the J.&A. Smith Store and worked as a merchant in many locations in Clifton and Chase creek for the next thirty years. A member of the Scottish community, Smith and his wife were active in Clifton social affairs.1 Sources (endnotes): 1.
