How the name was read

Each atlas was set in type by a different hand and scanned decades later, so the same establishment comes back spelled differently. Every reading below was produced by the recogniser from the sheets; none was corrected or invented. They are published so a search for any of them finds this page.

Named in the 1883 county history

The history of Marion County was published 27 years before the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

Brenizer Block. - This is one of the finest business blocks of the village, and was erected through the enterprise of Brenizer Brothers, consisting of W. G. Brenizer, of Cardington, Ohio, and C. H. Brenizer, of Prospect. It was commenced in the spring of 1881, and completed in 1882 at a cost of about $12,000. The block is built of brick, three stories high. The lower floor is fitted up and occupied by stores; the second fioor has six con venient offices, while the third and upper floor was specially built for and fitted up as an one of the neatest halls for the purpose found in towns of the size of Prospect. It has a seating capacity for 800 to 1,000 people. The stage is 28x65 feet, and fitted up with tasteful and appropriate 6cenery and all the modern paraphernalia.

Provenance

Read by machine from the printed index of the Sanborn fire insurance atlases of Prospect, Ohio, held by the Library of Congress. Sanborn atlases published before 1930 are in the public domain. Only names that at least three of four independent readings agreed on are published, and no spelling has been corrected: what appears here is what the recogniser returned from the ink.
