The history of Stark County was published 10 years before the first of these atlases, and it names this establishment.

THOMAS S. WEBB, retired, Massillon. Col. Webb was born in Salem, Ohio, May (3, 1808; his paternal ancestors emigrated from England and settled in Chester Co., Penn., at a very early day; they were Fi lends in religious belief. John Welib, the grandfather of our subject, emigrated from Harford Co., Md., to Salem, Cohunbiana County, in 1805, on land that is now embraced within the northeast part of the city of Salem. The maternal grandfather of our subject, Thomas Smith, settled in Georgetown, ]3eaver Co., Penn., in 1792, and established Smith's FeiTy. John Webb, the father of Thomas S., was a hatter by trade; came to Georgetown, Penn., in 1805, and there man-ied Phebe Smith, daughter of the Thomas Smith just mentioned.
