Rehoboth Beach, the town this property stands in, in 23 storm reports between 1998 and 2022: 8 rip current, 6 lightning, 3 heavy rain, 2 thunderstorm wind.
The reports record 2 deaths and 34 injuries. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
In Rehoboth Beach, a lightning strike and ensuing fire caused about an estimated $250,000 in damage to a house on Coventry Lane in the Rehoboth Beach Yacht and Country Club development. Lightning apparently struck the attic of the home. Six fire companies fought the blaze.
A lightning strike around Silver Lake caused about 600 homes and businesses to instantaneously lose power in Rehoboth Beach. The power surge then affected transformers in the area and an additional 2,000 homes and businesses lost power in Rehoboth Beach. Smoke from one transformer forced the evacuation of the Star of the Sea Condominium. All power was restored by 1038 p.m. EDT that evening.
Report from Rehoboth Beach. Emergency Management reports numerous trees uprooted, large tree limbs down, and power outages mainly across the southern side of town. Notably impacted areas were New Castle Street, Scarborough Avenue, Park Avenue, and Hickman Street. Time estimated via radar.
