The full blocks of Beachwood are 600 feet long and 200 feet wide, so that it is easy to tell the distance from one point to another in the borough. The streets are 33 feet wide, with the following exceptions: Atlantic City Boulevard is 50 feet wide; Beachwood Boulevard is 50 feet wide from the water to the railroad crossing, and 40 feet south of this; Barnegat Boulevard, Club House Road and Railroad Avenue are 40 feet wide.

some effort should be made to put on record its his- ~ tory, the names of-its early residents, and such other infor- mation as is pertinent. And not only asa matter of history, but as a very convenient and useful necessity, we venture to bring out the first issue of this Borough Directory and

| Who's Who.

The idea of such a volume occurred to the editor in the midst of other pressing labors, and was received so favor-

ably by those with whom we consulted, that we could not

help entering upon the project with pleasure, as a labor of love for Beachwood and as a means of still further spreading the name and fame of the beautiful borough in the pines so fortunately founded by Bertram C. Mayo and the great

daily newspaper which backed his efforts and lent him its

influence and support.

We wish to thank the many friends who so promptly sent in their subscriptions in advance, proving, as so often in the past, that no effort for the welfare of our borough ever failed to receive a spontaneous and public-spirited sup- port.. We only hope that what has been so hurriedly pre- Patea for the season of 1924 may, at least to some extent, meet the expectations and approval of our subscribers. If the Directory fills a real want we may be tempted to issue it annually, and in that case shall be pleased to receive sug- gestions for added interest and improvement.

Nor must we forget to thank our advertisers, without whose important assistance a large deficit would surely have stared us in the face. A blessing upon their heads and may the people of Beachwood give each one of them a bounteous share of patronage.

'There are many ex- cellent men and women, who are interested in Beachwood, and if some of the pioneers are missed, other desirable peo- ple are taking their places. Learning more about each other, let us come together more closely and foster to a still ereater extent the fine community spirit which has done so much for Beachwood in the first decade of its existence. We now have an opportunity, also, to learn something about the lines of business in which our residents are engaged, and it will be the neighborly and graceful thing to make use of this knowledge for mutual advantage and benefit.

Beachwood, the beautiful, began as a summer health re- sort in the great New Jersey pine belt. Its rapid growth and development, despite the temporary setback caused by the world war, indicates that it has a great future and should it be enabled, as we hope, to add more territory to afford still greater growth along the waters of Barnegat Bay (for we are located on an arm of that famous body and not, strictly speaking, on a river), the time may be not far distant when we shall be a winter as well as a summer resort, with increased opportunities for development, prosperity and healthful recreation and enjoyment. For the attainment of this greatness and eventual national distinction, two things are absolutely necessary. First, the preservation of the pines without which the distinctive character, charm and at- traction of Beachwood would be wiped out; and, second, the rigid cooperation of the present inhabitants to guard well the character of those who are encouraged to settle among us. No commercial consideration or prospect of gain should tempt those who love and honor this lovely spot, to do anything that would lower the standard of its property owners. And we should take an equal pride in seeing our ordinances enforced so that Beachwood may continually add to its reputation as a decent, law-abiding Christian community.

Mr. Burnett was born in Seneca Falls, N. Y. His parents removed to Yon- kers, where he attended the public schools. At sixteen years of age he struck out for himself at Maplewood, N. J., where he started in the oil busi- ness and succeeded on a capital of $5. He told us the story in his quiet, hu- morous way, and it is so good that we shall try to reproduce it as an example of what a plucky and honest American lad can do.

"IT wished to get up a route to sell kerosene oil," he said, "but I had no horse or wagon. I happened to read in a paper the advertisement of a man in Orange Valley who wanted to sell a rig. So I went to see him and told him I would like to buy the horse and outfit. 'But,' said I, 'I have no money.' 'Neither have I,' he replied, 'and the horse is starving. Have you any feed?' I said no, but I would get some. "All right,' he then said, 'take and try him fer two weeks, and if you like him you can pay me fifty dollars for him, wagon and harness and all. Then I went to a farmer and said, 'I want 500 pounds. of hay, but have no money to pay for it just at present.' He replied, 'All right, back your wagon up and pay me wher you can.' So I got tne hay, but how about feed? I went to the mill and said [| needed either a bag of feed or a bag of oats. The miller replied, 'you can have both.' 'But,' I said ehave no money to pav for them yet.' He looked at me and said, 'You look as if you would pay for them; you can have

"So far so good. Then I drove down to Newark and saw Mr. McKurgen, who was in the oil business there, and I bought a barrel of oil. It cost me $4.38, and as my entire capital was only $5, it nearly ate it up. I had to have a faucet, but a man in the yard said,

"We have several lying around here that are not in use and you can have one.' Then I bought a measure and a funnel for sixty-two cents cash and had twenty cents left. I worked hard and at the end of a whole week I found I had sold just one quart of kerosene; but I had some promises and kept right at it and at the end of another week I found I had sold three barrels. I felt like a young Rockefeller."

And Warren T. Burnett kept at it for six years, and while he did not amass a fortune like John D., he was able to marry at the age of twenty-three, Miss Mary F. Van Riper, of Newark. After that, with Mrs. Burnett, he re- moved to Ocean Grove and Asbury Park, where he worked as a carpenter for a time and afterwards became a builder. Later he removed to Newark and while there went on an excursion to Ocean Gate, with the result that he purchased lots at this resort and opened seeing Beachwood he and Mrs. Burnett decided to settle here, and they built a two-story dwelling and store com- bined on Beachwood Boulevard. Wife, Mrs. Mary F. (Van Riper) Burnett; children, Milton T., Warren F. and Florence Edna Burnett.

Milton T. Burnett, of East Orange, married Cynthia Morris, and_ their daughter married Jack Wines, of East Orange, and they have a son, Milton, thus making Warren T. Burnett a great-grandfather. His second. son, Warren E., of Newark, married Liz- zie Richards; they have three children. Florence Edna Burnett married Eugene L. "Is a native of Rochester, N. Y., where he was for six years connected with the Daily Post-Express, resigning as editor-in-chief when that paper changed its political policy. He was also for several years city editor and associate editor of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Later he became editor of the Home Magazine and, still later, chief of the foreign correspondence department of the Philadelphia Com- mercial Museum, which voted him a diploma for meritorious services in connection with the National Export Exposition in 1900. He was in the consular service for several years, and paid a visit to Paraguay and reported to the State Department at Washing- ton an offer which he obtained from the Paraguayan government of a sub- sidy for a direct steamship line to that country, if the United States would give similar support. The Congress of Paraguay passed him a vote of thanks and $500 in gold for his book on Para- guay. Among his other literary pro- ductions are, the Whist Reference Book, Democracy and Other Poems, and a comic opera, The Sea-Serpent, which was set to beautiful music by Clifford W. Walsh. She is also an associate member of the Polyhue Yacht Club and a member of the Property Owners' Association. Mr. Butler was the first president of the Property Owners' Association and served a second term. He was also the first president of the Beachwood board of education and the first chairman of the board of trustees of the Beachwood Religious Association; also the first chairman of the committee on the preservation of the pines, and of the recently appointed shade tree commis- sion. Also a member of Beachwood's first special police reserve, first fire organization, and Rod and Gun Club; charter member Polyhue Yacht Club; member Safety Committee, Automobile Club of New York.

He began his business career as a stock clerk in the linen thread business was transferred to their New York office in 1891, and became a salesman on the road; in 1894 he went with the William Clark Co., New York, manu- facturers of cotton thread, which firm was absorbed by the American Thread Company in 1899; remained with them until 1913, when he became New York manager of the Summit Thread Co., cotton thread, and also represented several other thread manufacturers: the Roxbury Shoe Thread Co., the French Thread Mills, the U. S. Thread Co., and the Old Colony Thread Co. Still represents a majority of them and makes regular trips in New York State, Northern New Jersey and Connecticut, with headquarters at 653 Broadway. Was married to Edna May Bogardus, of New York, in 1897; one daughter, Ruth Douglas Collins.

Mr. Collins was a member of the First Naval Battery of New York, from ing the Spanish War, in 1898, as quar- termaster. In 1894 he became chair- man of the board of directors of the Morris Yacht Club, on City Island, in the Pelham Bay park district, New York City, and was instrumental in placing that club upon a prosperous basis, after a hard struggle lasting a number of years.

children, David, aged 4% years, and Theodore, one year. Mr. Lawrie has, for a number of years, made Beach- wood his vacation home. Last year he remained over the winter with his fam- ily. He came here originally to re- cuperate his health and has been so delighted with the place that his desire is to spend as much time here as he possibly can. And if Mr. Lawrie is de- lighted with Beachwood, it is only fair {ORSAY sal Beachwood is delighted with him and highly honored to num- ber him and Mrs. Lawrie, and their lovely children, among our residents. A detailed account of Mr. Lawrie's artistic career is yet to be written. From a voluminous scrapbook of his, delving here and there, we have been able to glean some interesting facts. As already stated, he was born at Stoneham, Mass. At the age of eleven his parents removed to Lewiston, Me.,

and, consequently, he was afterwards claimed by that city as a Lewiston boy. He began his musical career as a drum- mer, at the early age of fourteen, in Payne's Second Regiment Band of Lewiston, at the same time doubling as 'cellist for orchestral work. Being very ambitious and energetic, he was also engaged as supervisor of public school music in five different commu- nities before he reached the age of twen- ty. He had not taken his own voice seriously until 1909, when he was solo tenor in St. Mark's Church, Augusta. Next year he was singing much appre- ciated solos with a chorus at Lewiston. He was also a member of the Lewiston lyric quartette, and song leader at the Littleton Assembly. His - success prompted him to seek more thorough voice culture.» As a boy he had at- tended the Maine musical festival and fallen under the spell of its leader, William R. Chapman. In 1912 he heard Nordica sing at one of these festival concerts and made up his mind, then and there, that he would go to New York and study, and some day come back as a festival soloist.

His studies in New York were ardu- ous but effective and caused him to be hailed as a new lyric tenor. The Brook- lyn Eagle spoke of his marvelous range and quality of voice. In January, 1913, he led a chorus of 400 voices in a rec- ord-breaking evangelistic campaign at the Fourth Avenue M. E. Church in Brooklyn, and sang solos "with thrill- ing and dramatic effect," according to the papers. The New York Tribune spoke of his making a hit also "as one of the Madison Square Garden forces." In fact, his scrapbook of press clip-

pings is full of the highest compliments from musical critics. His wonderful, rich tenor voice, resonant and of great dramatic power, natural and flexible, and full of emotional ardor ard fine discrimination, is described in these and other terms, and he was also said to have the gift of singing himself right into the hearts of his hearers. David Bispham, the famous baritone, spoke of his elorious voice and fine personality. H. E. Krehbiel, the noted critic, declared that Lawrie's voice was one of extraordinary beauty. In the fall of 1913 Mr. Lawrie was at Lake On- tario, and Rochester, N. Y., where he made a splendid impression as one of the Metropolitan Lyric Four, and he also made other good impressions in the Kodak City, for he won one of its fair and accomplished daughters, whose musical taste and talent were to prove of great assistance to him. His mar- riage to Miss Winifred McCall took place on November 25th, 1914, in New

Lawrie was taken on shipboard in the English Channel. He was in uniform on his way to France, engaged by the "Over There Theater League," as an entertainer, to sing to the American troops. He sang also in England, re- maining abroad for many months and returning home late in 1919. He now appeared with Fernando Guarneri, a distinguished baritone of the San Carlo Opera Company and other brilliant connections, whose voice was said by the critics to come nearest to that of Titta Ruffo. They filled a three weeks' en- gagement, with much success, at the Century Theater in Baltimore and also sang for the radio. Mr. Lawrie filled the leading rdle of "Abu Hassan,". in Frank Damrosch's School in New York. Mr. Damrosch had chosen him for five consecutive years to do the tenor solos for the Musical Art So- ciety in New York, saying: "Mr. Lawrie is one American singer with genuine temperament." Early in August, 1911, we see him directing the chorus work of the Aroostook Camp Meeting. in Maine, and on the 26th of that month he sang to over 10,000 peo- ple in an open-air concert in Battery Park, New York, with the New York Police Band, on which occasion the New York Evening Journal said: "Mr. Lawrie has a remarkable tenor voice, which has been predicted will land him in grand opera." Nor did he forget Rochester and Lake Ontario, where we find him enjoying the beach with Mrs. Lawrie and their first baby boy. Dur- ing the summer he was soloist in the Lake Avenue Baptist Church of

Rochester. This year his long standing ambition to sing as a soloist in the Maine musical festival was also re- alized. Mr. Chapman appreciated his genius and he sang in Portland, Ban- gor, Lewiston, Bath and elsewhere with Guarneri, Rosa Raisa, and other famous artists, to record-breaking au- diences. In October he took leading tenor parts in the operas "Otello" and "La Giaconda," and sang the tenor part in Rossini's "Stabat Mater."

In February, 1921, Mr. Lawrie gave a very successful joint recital, with Mar- jorie Squires, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, on the occasion of the afternoon musicale of the Rubinstein Club, and in March he began a concert tour with Guarneri and Mlle. Sokoloff, the violinist, in Maine, under the man- agement of Mr. Chapman. Bangor, Waterville, Old Town, Machias, Bid- deford, and Presque Isle were among the places visited and everywhere old friends and new were delighted.

The same year Lawrie and Guarneri determined to try their fortunes in musical burlesque, and they made an excellent team, always confining their efforts to high-class music. They were the greatest sensation ever heard in this field.

In March, 1922, Mr. Lawrie was again on the program of the Rubinstein Club, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, and in the same month he sang a solo part in Handel's Messiah, given by the Baltimore Oratorio Society. In April he was engaged in costume singing for several weeks, with Hors Hampton and Guarneri, at the Branford Theater in Newark, N. J.; also in Paterson, N. ae Later the Baltimore Sun announced Lawrie and Guarneri for twenty weeks at the Century Theater and roof, breaking all records. They were de- scribed as an 'inimitable vaudeville team, "with a painless method of ad- ministering high-brow music." On July 3rd, they gave an enjoyable concert in Beachwood. In September Mr. Law- rie began a five weeks' engagement at the Capitol Theater, on Broadway, New York, being selected by Mr. Rothapfel out of fifty tenor applicants, to sing the "Kol Nidrei'" for the Jew- ish holidays, lasting one week. Mr. Lawrie made up in character, imper- sonating Sirota, the great Russian cantor. He also sang the réles of Faust and the prologue of the Prisoner of Zenda at the same theater.

Next he was off again for the twenty- sixth season of the Maine musical festival, which closed with the opera of Carmen, in costume, at Bangor and Portland in October. He took the

part of El Doncario, and Guarneri that of Escadrillo. Lucrezia Bori, Margaret Silvia and Helen Yorke were also in the cast. Mr. Lawrie also gave an ex- cellent characterization of the part ot El Doncario, the smuggler, in act four of the opera "El Forza del Destino," at Bangor.

Early in 1923 he filled a six weeks' en- gagement at the Capitol Theater, New York, again supplementing the regular program with beautiful solo work. He also sang for the inmates of the Sol- diers' Home and the patients of the home for incurables at Richmond, Va. When he terminated his engagement at the Century Theater and roof gar- den in Baltimore, on January 2nd, he determined once more to devote him- self to evangelistic work, as he had become convinced that the operatic stage held out a future only to these who were willing. to employ methods which he refused to use. Being of a high strung, emotional temperament, his experience with operatic managers was most unsatisfactory. During his entire life, at camp meetings and else- where, religious singing had appealed to him, and in this we trace the influ- ence of his mother, who was a devout member of the Lutheran Evangelical Church. In February he was engaged for three weeks in most congenial labors with Rev. Charles L. Goodell, DD. of New York, at St..Paul's Methodist Church, Houston, Texas. In April he was singing glorious gospel solos. with this noted preacher at Athens, Ga. In March they were at the Abbott Memorial Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. Dr. Goodell said of him: "He is the finest recruit from the stage whom we have ever known about." Richmond, Lexington, Ky., and other cities were also visited. In addition to his singing in the churches, Mr. Law- rie also sang before Rotary, Kiwanis and Lion clubs all over the country, at their lunches, and he talked along evan- gelistic lines, too, winning their heart- iest response. In July he returned to Beachwood to rest and recuperate, but even here his intense activity would not permit him to remain idle, as all who have heard him here and in Toms River can testify. In August, 1923, he sang at the services in the Beachwood non- denominational chapel, and at the same time filled the pulpit for the evening, giving his personal experiences. In October he went to join Dr. Goodell in Waterbury, Conn., for ten days, and from there they went to Portland, Me., for a three weeks' evangelical cam- paign. While in the latter city Mr.

After enjoying a vacation from Decem- ber Ist, and gathering new health and strength, he is preparing for a strenu- ous season beginning this fall. In the meantime he is doing summer work at Ocean Grove auditorium, Spring Lake, Asbury Park and other New Jersey re- sorts. He is tenor soloist at the first M. E. Church in Asbury Park, which has a chorus of sixty voices, one of the finest in the East. He has also con- sented to appear in two concerts in Beachwood for the benefit of the chap- el fund.

In 1906 he became assistant counsel to the Treasury Department in Customs cases and traveled to Hawaii to handle such cases and was admitted to the bar there. Later he engaged in private practice, and in 1912 made a tour of the world in the interest of clients, be- ing accompanied on the trip by Mrs.

Mrs. Levett is a member of the Prop- erty Owners' Association and ~ has taken a prominent part in the affairs of the Beachwood Woman's Club. For a number of years she has been chair- man of the winter card parties of the club in New York City, and has made the stay of the members pleasant on each occasion at the Sherman Square Hotel, where she and Mr. Levett and children spend the winters. Of late his practice elsewhere has grown so that he cannot keep up his residence here and his bungalow is rented to others. One of his children is a Beach- wood baby. He took a great interest in tennis -while here, but had a sad experience in the building of the tennis court, which 'was not satisfactorily made. The contractor, in order to force payment, attached Dr. Miller's property as one of the officers of the tennis club and he had to pay the bill, the rest allowing him to do so, which was a re- grettable incident.

Speaking of his early efforts here, he says: "When I finished our first bungalow in Beachwood, in August, 1915, there were only 45 there. Mr. Nickerson attended the public schools at Harwick and also a private school in West Newton. He next en-

tered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, from which he was graduated in 1888, in engineering, with the degree of S. B. He followed the profession of civil engineering for twenty-five years until he came to

request. He had met Mr. Mayo in Cali- fornia, where the project of the de- velopment of what was to be Beach- wood was discussed. They met again in the East when Mr. Mayo renewed the subject and Mr. Nickerson agreed to undertake the work.

His first duty was to secure title to the big tract which was to be divided up into lots. Mr. Mayo had tried to obtain the property in 1912, but found the price too high, when the owners learned his plans. So the purchase was made in Mr. 'Nickerson's name and he was furnished a description of the tract and had to come alone and survey it his plans. The property was known as the Carpenter tract and consisted of nearly 2,000 acres. Mr. Nickerson sur- veyed the boundary first, making a field map and from this the acreage was computed. The map was next cut up into flats and blocks and in the neigh- borhood of 30,000 lots were staked out, and 28,000 eventually sold, some being not as good as Mr. Mayo wished and these he would not sell. The maps of the various flats and blocks were made by Mr. Nickerson and as fast as he could finish them, submitted to the Berkeley township committee for ap- proval. Then they were filed in the County clerk's office and only when this was actually done did Mr. Maye allow the New York Tribune salesmen to sell the lots. They sold lots as fast as the maps could be made and filed. The tract consisted of nearly 2,000 acres and secured at $27 per acre. Mr. Nickerson, with a large force of men, cleared and gravelled some of the main streets and every other street run- ning crosswise, and named all of them, using as far as possible nautical terms. When he ran out of these he took names of trees, etc. He also erected the various public buildings for Mr. Mayo, the club house, lodge, restaurant (afterwards Borough Hall and Audi- torium), the yacht club, bathing pavilion and the railroad station. He managed them during 1915. Altogether he also erected seventy bungalows in Beachwood. Is now engaged in real estate, and is collector of taxes. About 1903. he entered Bellevue Hospital Medical College, graduating in 1897. Engaged in general practice for sev- eral years and then entered the New York Post Graduate Medical School and Hospital in New York, and studied diseases of the nose and throat. For a time he was assistant to the chief of clinic in. rhinology and laryngology at this institution, and he also served as assistant in the genito-urinary clinic at the Presbyterian Hospital Dispen- point requiring all his time, he gave up hospital and dispensary work. For the past eighteen years or more Dr. Robinson has devoted his studies to the nature of the cell, and from these re- searches he wrote his epoch-making hypothesis on the cause of cancer and his reasons for the use of potassium nitrate in its freatment. Mr. Rost is also an artist of merit, self-taught, and enjoying painting as a relaxation from business. His remark- able painting of the Beachwood pines has been greatly admired for its faith- ful presentation of Beachwood scenery and atmosphere. Among his other compositions, done in moments of leis- ure, is a night scene of the "Four Cor- ners" at' Broad and Market Streets, Newark, which was reproduced in colors on his business calendar in 1920. It shows the skyscrapers at the cor- ner, and a block or so down the street can be seen the sign of his own business place. The four corners are said to be one of the busiest spots in the world, vying with Forty-second Street and Broadway, New York.

Mr. Rost has always taken an active interest in Beachwood and has been one of the hardest and most devoted workers in the interest of this beauti- ful place in the pines. For six consec- dent of the Property Owners' Associa- tion and during his long and success- ful administration many things have been proposed and energetically car- ried through by him and his fellow members of the board of trustees, of which he is also the head. Among these are the fair which resulted in the purchase of Beachwood's first fire apparatus and led to the foundation of its volunteer fire company. Mr. Rost has been quite as active also in the foundation and incorporation of the Beachwood Religious Association (non- denominational ) of whose board of trustees he is the chai To his hard work and persistent efforts is principally due the erection of the commodious and _ really handsome chapel in which religious services are held every Sunday evening during the summer season. He is also a charter member of the Polyhue Yacht Club, and member of the Rod and Gun Club.

Mr. Talmage was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., and received his education in the public schools and Cumberland Academy. Having shown some talent for drawing, he was placed under the tuition of a German professor for two or three years and won a prize at the Brooklyn Academy of Design for one of his pictures, an animal head. He tried again with a drawing of a wolf, but not finding himself able to draw a satisfactory tree, in his estimation, he turned it over to a classmate, Wil- liam Huffington, who afterwards be- came a noted art critic and who finished the picture, which also won a prize at the Academy of Design. Mr. Talmage next turned to law and studied it for two years when he took advantage of an opportunity to enter business with N. H. Woodman & Co. He remained twenty-three years with this firm and then accepted a position with the A. B. See Electric Elevator Company, in time becoming treasurer of the company and confidential manager of all of Mr. See's personal affairs. He has been with Mr. See's concern for thirty years and for twenty years everything of a financial nature has been entrusted to him. In 1880, in Brooklyn, he was married to Ida L. Blake. They have three children, Arthur Blake Talmage, Ella Villette Talmage and Jessie Elliott Talmage. Arthur was married in 1921 to Myrtle Smith: they spent Christmas of that year in Beachwood and now re- side at Port Arthur, Texas. W. H. Talmage was a member of the first borough council of Beachwood and, as chairman, was acting mayor in the absence of Mayor Senior. Finding it impossible, like Mr. Senior, to be in Beachwood all the time, George D. Suydam, an all-year resident at that time, was made acting mayor in the absence of Mr. Senior. Mr. Talmage was also the first treasurer of the Property Owners' Association and treasurer of the old yacht club before the Polyhue Yacht Club was organized. He became one of the charter mem- bers of the latter. Is a member of the Royal Arcanum; also of the Ma- chinery Club of New York City, and of the Jersey City chamber of com- merce. Mrs. Talmage was for two terms president of the Woman's Club and is also a member of the Property Owners' Association.

Mr. Tice was the first to serve the peo- ple of Beachwood with ice, and in do- ing so he had many difficulties to over- come. While Toms River supplied gas, electricity and merchandise of all kinds willingly for cash, the ice dealer, who had a monopoly, refused to include Beachwood in his territory, even when the wants of little children called for his services. He claimed the streets were not sufficiently improved and, be- sides, he had all he could do. And Mr. Tice helped solve the situation despite the fact that high blood pressure made it dangerous for him to handle such a heavy commodity. This tribute is only his just due. He afterward sold out to Philip S. Allen, who is courteous and untiring in supplying the needs of Beachwood. We are also glad to note that C. W. Wills, old-time ice dealer of Toms River, recently sold out to a modern and obliging successor. Mr. Tice is a member of the Patriotic Order of Americans.

Mr. Turner was appointed the first fire warden for Beachwood, in 1917; bor- ough marshal in 1918, and borough clerk the same year, vice Max Blasberg, who resigned on account of ill health. Mr. Turner resigned to enter the State constabulary, but later accepted a position at the Lake- hurst air station.
