At the first meeting of the Board at 1436 -Madison Street, Northwest, September 29, 1903, they organized by electing Professor William H. Richards Chairman and Mr. Lucius H. Peterson Secretary. The Board, through their Auditing Com¬ mittee , have carefully examined and find cor¬ rect the accounts and vouchers of the Treasurer and Financial Secretary whose balance sheet for the year ending December 31, 1903 is as follows:

The annexed statements of the treasurer and Financial Secretary show in detail the sources from which the receipts have been ob¬ tained, as well as the objects to which the ex¬ penditures have been applied.

The Board submits the following short historical statement of the Association and brief summary of its work for the year.

October 7, 1903, the Association was duly incorporated as a benevolent and charitable

society, pursuant to Chapter Eighteen, Sub¬ chapter Three, of the Laws of Incorporation as set forth in the Code of Laws established by the Congress of the United States for the District of Columbia.

The device recommended b}^ the Board has been adopted as the Association's seal, which has been made and given in charge of the Financial Secretary,

The Financial Secretary, Recording Secre¬ tary and the Treasurer have been furnished all books and blanks required by the Constitution and necessary for their work.

The Constitution has been printed, the work being done in the office of one of our members, and copies distributed by order of the Association.

A style of badge has been considered by the Board and their recommendation laid before the Association for future action.

On a further recommendation of the Board, a committee of fifty members, with A. T. Lewis as chairman, were appointed to have charge of a reception to be given at Convention Hall, January 15, 1904, which we are confident that all our members will use their utmost endeavors to make a notable social and financial success.

Seven persons have appeared before the Board as applicants for membership in the Association, six of whom have been recom¬ mended for membership, and one rejected on the ground that his age exceeded the Constitu¬ tional limit.

During the year death has not visited our ranks and our members now number five hun¬ dred and ninety industrious, educated Chris- tain gentlemen.

In recognition of the Divine Providence, which had so signally blessed and prospered our Association from the beginning, the Board recommended that the Society have its first an¬ nual sermon preached, which recommendation was approved, and the Rev. W. H. Brooks delivered the sermon at 19th Street Baptist Church on the third Sunday evening iu Novem¬ ber. A collection of $52.35 was taken up, five dollars being presented to the Pastor, one dol¬ lar to the sexton and the balance to the church. About one-half of the members turned out and wore badges which had been provided for them by the Secretary of the Board of Directors.

In closing, the Board of Directors hereby extend a New Year's greeting to the Association: they applaud the work of all the officers and members whose efforts have brought such bene- ficient and wonderful results and they commend this noble American organization and its future to the keeping of Him who is infinite in - power and in love.
