Eustis, the town this property stands in, in 15 storm reports between 1993 and 2019: 6 hail, 6 thunderstorm wind, 2 tornado, 1 lightning.
The reports record 1 injury. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
A female student was burned by a piece of power transformer on top of a pole that was struck by lightning. Pieces of the shattered transformer flew through an open window on a school bus and landed on the student's leg.
A tornado touched down in the Town of Eustis at the northern end of West Crooked Lake. The tornado quickly intensified to EF1 strength as it moved north northwest through Eustis. The track was just under two miles long and had a maximum width of 300 yards. The tornado destroyed 7 homes. Twenty seven homes received major damage and 81 homes reported minor damage. There were no serious injuries and property damage was set at $6.2 million.
Severe thunderstorms blew down numerous trees and power lines and severely damaged the roof and a large door at a car dealership in Eustis. Trees also fell on a pickup truck.
Several trees were topped due to the passage of squalls associated with Hurricane Hermine. Trees and powerlines were reported downed from Tavares to Eustis to Mt. Dora.
Local broadcast media relayed reports of a large tree that fell on a house on West Crooked Lake Place in Eustis, and other large tree limbs were down on adjacent properties.
