Storms near this place
4 since 2011Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Flat Rock in 4 storm reports between 2011 and 2025: 2 thunderstorm wind, 1 hail, 1 tornado. The reports record 2 injuries. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April 2011 | Thunderstorm Wind | Flat Rock | 2 hurt, $350,000 | Meteorologists with WRBL and WTVM Television in Columbus reported that a microburst or downburst had caused considerable damage in a small area on the northeast side of Columbus, or approximately one mile northeast of Kenwood. The worst damage was near the intersection of Macon Road and Crystal Road where the Crystal Valley Mobile Home Park was located. Other damage was noted from the Willow Bend residential area to Corporate Ridge Industrial Park. Over 100 large mature trees, many oaks and pines, were either uprooted or split within a two to three square mile-wide area. Several mobile homes were heavily damaged, including two of which were destroyed when large trees crushed them. Several fences and metal gates were also destroyed when smashed by the large fallen trees. WRBL Television reported that two injuries occurred at one of the mobile homes crushed by a large tree. WTVM also noted wind damage just northeast of Bibb City as well, where a few more large trees were down, one of which crushed a fence. |
| June 2018 | Thunderstorm Wind | Flat Rock | $3,000 | The broadcast media reported multiple trees blown down along Grey Rock Road. |
| April 2025 | Tornado (EF1) | Flat Rock | - | A supercell embedded within a line of strong to severe|thunderstorms generated a tornado that touched down in northern|Muscogee County, just a few miles northeast of downtown Columbus.|Numerous trees were snapped or uprooted along Widgeon Road and Trapper Way, extending to Psalmond Road. Structural damage in the neighborhood was mainly confined to a few homes with trees falling on them. The tornado continued to track northeast, crossing the Bull Creek Golf Course. Numerous additional trees were down|across the 500-acre public course. Unfortunately, 2 people trying|to seek shelter under a tree during the storms were killed. Based|on the location of where the fatalities occurred, we believe they|weren't in the direct path of the actual tornado but very strong|(75+ mph) inflow winds helped snap the trees. The tornado|paralleled Hwy 27 (alternate) also known as Manchester Expressway|snapping and uprooting additional medium to large-sized trees. EF-|1 damage is estimated between the Beaver Run neighborhood and|Lynch Road near Hwy 27 (south side) where maximum winds were|around 90 mph. Additional trees were snapped along Jackson Road|and Lynch Road but a weakening trend is noted in the damage here.|A few branches down along Midland Woods Drive (just south of Hwy|27) is where an estimated ending point is located. No additional|damage was noted to the northeast of this area. |
